This reflection will provide details about the objectives, background, and design for JOG FOR Hope 2016. I will also share my reflections on why I took part in this event.

Previous event that I participated was the 10km Jogathon (Figure 1) held at Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas, on Sunday 14 August 2016. This event was categorized as Fundraising Event and had approximately 1,786 participants.

This event is important to me because it helps others who need our help. This is why I was interested in participating in a Fundraising or Sport event. It not only helps people who are experiencing problems but also gives me the opportunity to exercise and improve my health. Participants received a free Goodies bag and a JOG FOR HOTRE 2016 certificate (Figure 2) after I had participated in this event. Jogathon Warisan, which was held at Kwong Tung Cemetery Office on April 20, 2014, was my first Jogathon. Aside from these two Jogathons and other events, I have also participated in Jogathons for Schools Found 96th, which was held at Chong Hwa Independent high School, and Social/Lifecycle Event, Jogathon Warisan (17/4/2016).

After the Tree Huggers Club of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas (TCSH), visited Spastic Children Association of Selangor & Federal Territory(SCASFT), the idea of organizing this Jogathon emerged. The poor state of the building was evident after a meeting with the club. A Jogathon would have been a better option than collecting funds from public to fund the SCASFT redevelopment project (Jog For Hope 2016, 2018.

Taylor’s College Jog For Hope was founded in 2009 by Tree Huggers Club and involves Taylor’s College’s pre-university student participants. Sri Hartamas from Taylor’s College organized the first JOG for Hope event in 2009. It was the 8th event of JOG FOR HOPE. The organizing committee was made up of 42 students with support from college staff.

There were three distances for this event: 3km Fun Run, 6km Turbo Run (Figure 5) or 10km Resilience Run. The fees paid by participants were divided into four categories. These included RM35 schoolchildren, RM45 tertiary student, RM55 all other participants, RM55 corporate groups with 10 participants (Taylor’s College 2018). Zalora was a sponsor of the event. Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas hosted the event. This is a Taylor’s College campus, which was established in 2008.

Next, Fundraising Events are events that are organized by or for charitable groups or causes-related groups for the purpose attracting support, revenue and/or awareness.

Event Objective: This event raised funds to support charitable societies and organizations that help communities. Participants donated funds to help communities in need. Kirtarsh Disabled Children’s Society of Ampang, Sweet Care Welfare Society, and Kirtarshhandicapped Children’s House were the beneficiaries. The Kirtashhandicapped & Disabled children’s home in Rawang caters to underprivileged children, disabled, and older people. The Sweet Care Home of Selayang and Special Children Society Ampang provide education and special care to children with learning and developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy and prader-willi. Each child received a donation in the amount of RM23,000 from Taylor’s College (2018).

Foundations of Event Design consists of three elements: setting up, managing and people. The elements that made up the setting were design, location and sense of place. Management could include elements of programme, services, and systems. The people included staff, volunteers, participants, and guests.

This event’s theme was JOG FOR HOPES. Participants can donate funds to the cause. Jogathon events that were held in communities or local areas were considered Minor Events. Minor Events will draw a limited audience to increase local interest, and possibly create a tradition. Minor Event is also known as annual or festival events. Taylor’s College students did not focus on the lighting as it was an event that took place outside of College at 7 AM. Floodlight, which is a floodlight that illuminates a large area and produces a more circulate lighting than work lights, was the lighting they used. Music was the focus of the event. The participants were encouraged to continue the run and welcomed back at the end of the jogathon by the music.

The event took place at Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas 62, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1 Sri Hartamas. This was a convenient location for the participants. Each year, the event was held in the same place as the Taylor’s College. Participants could find the place easier by sharing their car with others or using a Grab Car. To illustrate, I share a car with a friend and we go to the same place. The event’s design was different than other jogathon events. This is because the Taylor’s College students were not able to volunteer. They will set up at very specific distances so that participants receive different colors of ribbens. Participants who participated in the Jogathon over 10km had to pass through three checkpoints.

Because the event had been planned since April 2018, the management aspect of the organisation was easy. All participants were aware of the process and could follow it. Participants were aware of when they should check in, where to meet, and the distance to the Jogathon. The event also provided excellent services. This was due to the fact that Nestle Milo sponsors Milo drinks and Coco Crunch for participants after they finish Jogathon. Jogathon participants may increase their energy level by drinking Milo or coco crunch.

According to the people aspect, there were 1786 participants. They included students, parents, staff, and members of public from all walks and ages. However, the majority of those who participated in the event were teenagers. This event’s 2016 staff and volunteers included Taylor’s College students, Taylor’s Sri Haramas staff and Taylor’s College staff.

Discussion and Findings Students from Taylor’s College Sri Haramas had taught some basic exercises that could be used to lead participants in jogging. It was beneficial for everyone, especially those who weren’t exercise-addicted but were still interested in participating. It is good for your body to get some exercise before going on to more intense exercises such as long distance jogathons of distances of 6km and 10km. A second sponsor was found by Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas students, Nestle Milo. They provided drink and snacks for participants in the jogathon. Third, the event’s venue was Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas at 62 Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas. Kuala Lumpur. This was a convenient location for participants. Participants found it easier to find the location each year because they were held at the same venue every year. Participants could also find the check-in counter and the bathroom by looking at the signage.

This made it a memorable event for everyone, making them feel valued and excited to return. It will enhance Taylor’s College’s brand and make it more popular. This will also allow for increased participation and indirect fundraising for communities in need.

However, I discovered that beneficiaries were different in each year. Here are some examples of the beneficiaries that were different between years 2009, 2015 and 2016. The organization, Support for Parents, Infants and Children Through Early Services, was founded in 2009. It provided assistance for children with disabilities and learning difficulties.

Taylor’s College was able to assist different communities or organizations, but they remained focused on one goal: helping them attain a higher quality of life. The public can provide more assistance to the community in order to help them overcome their problems and reduce their burden.

This event had a problem because there was not enough parking space. It was also held outside College, beside the road. This meant that there were very few parking spots available. Participants had to park their vehicles on the opposite side from College, or another building. Participants who were familiar with it came earlier to park their cars at a nearby location. As Jogathon Warisan has provided lots of parking slots for participants, it was a recommendation that they prepare more.

Conclusion. I was very happy to have participated in the JOG FOR HOPE event. This helped me to gain a better understanding of how to help those who need it. JOG FOR HOPPE was able to provide many satisfying things for its participants. However, it also had problems for the participants. The number of volunteers and participants has increased over the years. You don’t just have to do JOG FOR Hope as a Fundraising event.
